About the workshop

A weekend workshop exploring the fundamentals of drawing by bringing awareness to rhythm, proportions, and form.

Day 1: Seeing Through Form
Suitable for beginners to intermediate.

Today is dedicated to discussion and practice of fundamentals which will lead to helping to see the live figure more clearly if you are also doing Day 2. You will move through observational and conceptual exercises which will increase your awareness of form and the ability to translate it into the language of drawing. We will look at the structure of basic three dimensional shapes and how to assemble them into more complex and rhythmical arrangements, as well as basic concepts of perspective. These exercises will help you see through form rather than merely looking at the surface. You will also make a longer still life study and begin to apply simple concepts to more subtle forms.

Day 2: The Essence of the Figure
Suitable for all levels.

Whether you have done Day 1 of this workshop or not, you will be guided to observe the live model simply - finding the simple essential thread of the gesture, and constructing the basic component parts along this inner movement. The focus will be on "seeing" more so than that of achieving an academic drawing. The old masters could see simply and knew that this is the only way to convincingly arrive at the full complexity of the human figure.

A variety of poses will be drawn, with shorter and longer poses facilitating different elements of the learning.

Special offer: One complementary session at Lifedrawingbyron with full course enrolment to continue to practice your life drawing skills.
