About the course

This is a great opportunity to make a head study in clay from a live model! Learn to see the simple form of the head and then to employ clay drawing methodology to develop the features over the 3 days. Emphasis will be placed on striving for the particular character of the sitter through guided observation of form and proportions. You may make a study of just the neck and head, or a portrait bust which includes the shoulders as well. Making drawings and a small clay maquettte will be part of the process, and you will also learn to make a specific armature to support the clay.

As we will be spending the whole three days concentrating on the clay study, mould making and casting of the piece can be done - if desired -at a later date by arrangement during our regular term atelier classes or the General Sculpture Workshop intensive.
